What is Eco?
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) could enable you to get funding to improve the energy efficiency of your home. Under the ECO scheme, gas and electricity suppliers such as British Gas, Eon, Npower, SSE, EDF Energy and Scottish Power are obligated to help households which require measures to increase their energy efficiency. Under the ECO scheme, the following measures are available to increase the energy efficiency of your house;
✓ Loft insulation
✓ Cavity wall insulation
✓ Solid wall insulation
✓ Underfloor insulation
✓ Boiler replacement/repair
What is ECO+
ECO+ is an upcoming extension to the current Energy Company Obligation initiative. The scheme aims to help thousands more customers improve their homes starting from early 2023. ECO+ will allow more households to be eligible for insulation improvements with the aid of government grants.
From April 2023, ECO+ will have two groups with different eligibility criteria that will receive varying levels of support. The general eligibility group must live in a home that falls within Council Tax bands A-D in England, A-E in Scotland and A-E in Wales. Their home must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of D or below, and they may receive a single insulation measure with a possible contribution required towards the installation cost. The type of insulation measure will depend on various factors.
The low-income eligibility group must be receiving certain means-tested benefits and have an EPC rating of D or below. They may receive a single insulation measure plus the possibility of heating controls. ECO4 will continue to run alongside ECO+, and the assessor will determine the most appropriate scheme for your home.
Insulation is one of the best ways to keep heat from escaping, which can help reduce heating costs. The ECO+ scheme is projected to save hundreds of thousands of households around £310 per year on average. If you don’t meet the eligibility criteria for either group, you can still pay for insulation to benefit from its advantages.
The ECO+ scheme is still being finalized, but it is expected to launch in April 2023. As soon as it is open for registration, customers will be notified so they can take advantage of this initiative and improve their homes.
